Black Consciousness Day: Celebrating Diversity and Struggle

On November 20th, we celebrate Black Consciousness Day throughout Brazil. This date pays homage to Zumbi dos Palmares, a historical figure who led a courageous fight against slavery. At Stuca, valuing and raising awareness are essential values that complement the empowerment and the attitude of embracing one’s own identity without fear or hesitation. All of this broadens our perspective on who we are, going beyond aesthetics and promoting deep reflections.

According to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the Black population in Brazil represents over 54% of Brazilians. However, the struggle for equality continues in many aspects of society, including aesthetic and hair trends that affect women with curly hair.

Black Consciousness Day invites us to reflect on the true role of female empowerment in this context. Every day, we spread the philosophy that embracing our true nature as natural curly-haired individuals helps make our society more aware of differences, regarding our appearance and hair.

In addition to considering history, it’s crucial to bring into our present the social progress achieved from the experiences of formerly enslaved communities. This leads us to reflect on evolving to eliminate any form of prejudice. This is the true spirit of human development, guiding us towards a fairer society by embracing all the differences that make us unique.

Therefore, on Black Consciousness Day, we celebrate diversity and struggle, but we also remember that human consciousness should be present every day. Let’s continue to promote equality and respect, building a better world for everyone.
